Chapter 25: I Just Said It Casually

One person went to the supermarket, one person went to watch a movie, and one person went to have hot pot.

As night fell, Han Fei came to the riverside alone.

The setting sun sank into the river, and the light from the streetlamps shone on him.

The temperature gradually dropped, and the number of pedestrians around decreased. However, Han Fei still stood there, looking at the other side of the river.

"Han Fei? Why are you here alone?" Li Xue, dressed casually, jogged over.

"The crew didn't need me today, so I went out for a stroll." As midnight approached, Han Fei's claim of not being nervous was fake. Whether he could survive the next log-in depended entirely on luck.

"I saw you eating hot pot alone in the mall earlier. I wanted to say hi, but you left right after finishing." Li Xue stood beside Han Fei. "When you're feeling down, it's best to go out and have fun with friends, forget about everything, and relax."

"I... don't have any friends." Han Fei thought for a moment and added, "I only have a decent neighbour."

"Have you always been alone?"

"Yes." Han Fei's voice was magnetic.

Looking at Han Fei standing by the riverside, Li Xue recalled a statement her leader once made: overly idealistic people often don't fit in.

The wind blew Han Fei's bangs, and he silently gazed at the Wisdom New City on the other side of the river. The high-rise buildings there were brightly lit, but the dazzling lights couldn't reach Han Fei on the other side of the river.

Han Fei and Li Xue stood by the riverside, while Zhao Ming and Zhang Xiaotian hid in the bushes about twenty meters away from them.

"Why do I feel like Li Xue values Han Fei a lot? Do girls like someone with Han Fei's personality?" Zhang Xiaotian crouched down and whispered.

"It depends. Someone with Han Fei's appearance can be seen as having a melancholic temperament by girls. As for someone like you, who looks like a weirdo, girls probably think you're just complaining for no reason."

"Are you asking for a beating?"

"I'm just telling the truth." Zhao Ming didn't continue bickering with Zhang Xiaotian. He took out his phone and dialled Captain Wang's number. "Captain, we've been following Han Fei for a day, and he has made me change my view of him. It's highly unlikely that a person like him would commit arson."

Zhao Ming and Zhang Xiaotian's suspicion of Han Fei had decreased significantly. Han Fei's unintentional kindness had touched them.

"Did he notice you when you were tailing him?" Captain Wang seemed to doubt Zhao Ming's surveillance skills. "What about Li Xue? Let her answer the phone. Although she doesn't follow the rules, she's highly capable."

"Li Xue? She's currently chatting with Han Fei by the riverside."

"What?!"

"That's right, they're talking about life and such..."

"Is that what I asked? Is that the focal point of the problem? I told you to observe discreetly! You three come back to me immediately! Right now!"

Li Xue, who was accompanying Han Fei by the riverside, suddenly received a message, but she seemed to have no intention of reading it.

After a while, her phone kept vibrating.

"Isn't that your phone? Aren't you going to answer?" Han Fei could even hear the buzzing vibration.

"We'll talk next time." Li Xue hung up the call, took her phone, and left the riverside.

The night grew darker, and Han Fei stayed alone until after ten o'clock before returning home.

Walking along the familiar path, Han Fei arrived at the small house he rented. He ordered some barbecue takeout and played his previous program on the computer.

"I smiled so happily on the show, but was I really that happy?"

Time passed unnoticed, and Han Fei, who had drunk some alcohol, sat quietly at the table. He skilfully connected various wires, then held the game helmet with both hands.

Looking at the constantly changing time on the computer screen, Han Fei didn't know what he was thinking. He forced himself to be energetic and, as midnight approached, put on the game helmet.

His vision was blocked, and his body felt as if it was sinking in the sea. Then everything around him turned blood-red.

"Welcome to Perfect Life. Now, you can choose your own perfect life!"

Before he even opened his eyes, Han Fei smelled a pungent odour. Without moving recklessly, he carefully felt the coldness on his ring finger.

"The ghost is right beside me."

There couldn't be worse news than this. Han Fei tried his best to calm down because he knew that the next few minutes would determine his life or death.

Opening his

eyes, almost in the instant his vision focused, Han Fei felt a perverse sense of excitement. He had to establish his "character" with his acting skills.

Scanning his surroundings, he found himself still in Room 1034, but the room had undergone a drastic change since he left. All the furniture was destroyed, the floor was littered with debris and fragments, the wardrobe was shattered, the bed was overturned, and the sheets and blankets were torn to shreds. The room was covered in children's handprints.

It seemed that the little ghosts in the room went berserk trying to find him and turned the entire room upside down.

The landlord's ring emitted a chilling aura, but the intensity of the aura fluctuated, appearing somewhat blurred.

Han Fei lifted his arm and felt the coldness in his fingertips. Turning around, he saw "Cry" standing on the broken spirit altar in the corner of the living room.

The aura emanating from the petite figure, "Cry," was much weaker than before. Both of their arms were now missing, and they were slowly regenerating at an extremely slow pace.

Seeing this, Han Fei understood two things.

First, after searching the room fruitlessly, "Cry" went mad and probably went to the neighbouring houses in this building to continue their search, leading to conflicts with the other neighbours.

Second, with "Cry" losing their arms and their aura fluctuating in strength, it indicated that there might be more dangerous ghosts in this building than "Cry"!

He had just casually said something, but it seemed to have had a significant impact.

With his arms missing, "Cry" stood quietly on the heavily damaged spirit altar, surrounded by torn paper dolls, but no other children were in sight.

"You just wanted someone to play games with you, and they cruelly took away your arms. That's unfair." Han Fei took the initiative to approach "Cry." "Who did this? Maybe I can help you."

Han Fei didn't directly mention that "Cry" lost the game or force them to fulfil their promise. He didn't even bring up the three tasks they needed to do for him.

At this moment, Han Fei appeared more like someone who had discovered an interesting toy. He didn't hide his malicious intent as he squatted in front of "Cry."

The twisted head of the black figure turned towards Han Fei, seemingly assessing him.

Everyone in this neighbourhood called him "Cry," but only Han Fei told them not to cry and seemed completely unafraid of them.

"Cry" didn't want to believe it, but doubt had gradually crept into their heart. The person before them might be an even more sinister and terrifying being, someone who wore a human disguise.
