Chapter 24: If Life Only Has 24 Hours Left

In just a few minutes, Han Fei displayed his lifelong acting skills. He constantly gave himself mental cues, immersing himself in a new role, but his body still trembled with fear.

It wasn't because his acting skills were lacking, but rather a human instinct.

Gasping for breath, Han Fei sat on the bed, feeling as if there were children all around him whenever he closed his eyes.

"Although I managed to fool them, what if 'Cry' doesn't keep their promise when I log back into the game?"

Grasping his hair tightly, Han Fei felt mentally exhausted. "If 'Cry' can't find me, they will go mad. I hinted for them to search for me in other neighbours’ houses when I come online next time. The ideal scenario would be if 'Cry' is in one of those houses."

Han Fei left himself a way out, but he knew the chances were slim.

"Cry is terrifying. When I made eye contact with them, I felt like they were constantly observing me. If I show the slightest fear or vulnerability, I might be eliminated directly." Han Fei shuddered as he recalled the encounter. "The feeling of having my life in someone else's hands is truly awful. If I can survive tonight, I must quickly improve my level and collect various items."

Han Fei clenched his teeth, but soon he felt powerless and desperate.

He had already given his all to survive this time, and next time he would log in directly to a room full of little ghosts. He had no confidence in escaping.

"Tomorrow night may be my last time playing the game."

Looking at the game helmet on the table, Han Fei couldn't find the words to express himself. He was just an ordinary person who naturally feared death.

His nerves had been tensing for a long time, and now Han Fei was exhausted, but he couldn't sleep at all.

He had always felt that his life was long, with enough time to do what he wanted to do. But it wasn't until this moment that he truly felt his life slipping away.

"There are so many insignificant things I thought I could do tomorrow, but if one day tomorrow never comes, how would I allocate my final twenty-four hours of life?"

The tense mood still couldn't be calmed. Han Fei opened a music app and chose some soothing songs.

No matter how fast technology developed, music was the sanctuary of the soul.

The night unknowingly passed, and as the sun rose, Han Fei took out his phone and looked through his contacts, which only filled half a page.

Han Fei was an orphan. He didn't have a happy and carefree childhood like other children, growing up under the wings of their parents. He could only run alone in the rain with an umbrella.

He had never experienced familial love or romantic love. The world wasn't kind to him, but he wanted to give back more laughter and happiness to the world.

He enjoyed listening to the laughter of others. That feeling of joy and happiness was like an elf gently landing on his lonely soul.

That was also why he wanted to become a comedian.

Closing the music app, Han Fei looked out of the window. The morning sun rose, and everything was full of vitality.

"It's dawn."

Opening the window, Han Fei neatly placed the tilted game helmet on the table. The event had already happened, and it couldn't be changed. Instead of worrying about tomorrow, it was better to live in the present.

He recalled a quote from the comedy master Charlie Chaplin—Today, I will only do things that are interesting and bring joy. I will do things that I love and make my heart glad, in my own way and with my own rhythm.

Han Fei brushed his teeth and washed up, looking at himself in the mirror. He couldn't see the slightest trace of desolation on his face.

"In the face of death, many things that I couldn't accept before now seem acceptable. Could this be the charm of healing games?"

Dressed neatly, Han Fei took his phone and walked out of the room.

Shortly after he left, Zhao Ming, Zhang Xiaotian, and Li Xue, dressed in casual clothes, came out of a van in the parking lot of the residential complex.

"A twisted and deranged super criminal helping children save a cat? Could that be possible?" Zhang Xiaotian was uncertain.

"Don't be careless! Haven't you forgotten what the captain said? Super criminals are experts at manipulating human nature! This might just be his disguise." Zhao Ming was also a bit confused. No matter how they looked at it, Han Fei was completely different from their imagined super criminal.

"I did encounter a super criminal during a prisoner transport mission." Li Xue stood at the back and immediately caught the attention of Zhao Ming and Zhang Xiaotian with her words. "Only to transport that one criminal, the streets along the route were pre-sealed, and multiple departments cooperated in the operation."

"You've seen a super criminal? Li Jie, what did that person look like?" Zhang Xiaotian and Zhao Ming were both curious.

"I couldn't see their face. They were locked inside a specially designed safe box, bound all over their body. I only remember that there was a butterfly-like pattern on their exposed left hand." Li Xue gestured with her hand. "Don't ask any more questions. These things can't be mentioned casually. Let's focus on Han Fei."

"Li Jie, since you believe Han Fei can't be a super criminal, why did you follow us to observe him?" Zhang Xiaotian was confused.

"Exactly because I believe he is not a super criminal, that's why I'm following you to prevent you from doing anything stupid." After Li Xue finished speaking, she walked out first. "You two have no experience in surveillance and tracking. It's best to stay away from me."

The three police officers quietly followed behind Han Fei, wanting to find any issues with him, but they didn't discover anything.

Along the way, Han Fei helped many people, showing warmth, tenderness, and nostalgia in his eyes. It was as if he only had one day of life left.

His behaviour was in line with the assessment of the Civilian Information System. If the danger level of such a person was not zero, then something must be abnormal.
