Chapter 49: The Devouring Room

Neither side made a move, and as time passed, Han Fei's inner fear gradually diminished.

In a few more minutes, he would be able to complete the hidden task. If he could hold on for this last period of time, the situation would undergo a fundamental change.

The chilling sensation emitted by the landlord's ring was almost freezing Han Fei's fingers, but with two ghosts blocking him, he became calmer instead.

Carefully maintaining the current situation, Han Fei didn't continue to enter the room, nor did he try to escape outside. He, a living person, stood at the entrance of the neighbour’s living room, wearing a polite smile on his face.

Room 1051 was pitch black, and the pair of bloody eyes seemed to appear out of thin air. Han Fei couldn't see the other person's appearance, but he knew that the aura emanating from them was extremely terrifying. It wasn't just pure coldness; it contained a special malice, a craving to devour.

"Could the neighbour in Room 1051 want to eat me?"

The commotion Han Fei caused earlier attracted attention from the upper floors. Both the ghost behind him and the one in front of him grew impatient, seemingly worried that more vengeful ghosts and monsters might come later.

Heavy panting sounded behind Han Fei, and the sticky liquid once again dripped onto his back.

Five bony fingers reached into Room 1051, but the ghost behind Han Fei seemed to try to pull him out. However, as soon as his hand entered the room, the thick darkness inside turned into a viscous liquid and surged toward the doorway, firmly trapping the ghost.

"It seems that the resident of Room 1051 can merge with the darkness." Han Fei recalled the black figure standing in the corridor. It had no face, no clothes, just a silhouette of darkness. "The residents of this building come in all shapes and forms."

A low roar echoed, but Han Fei didn't dare to turn around. He only knew that the ghost behind him and the resident of Room 1051 were in conflict.

"Fight, fight! It would be best if both are injured, one less threat."

Han Fei's mental resilience had become extremely strong. Terrifying sounds kept ringing in his ears, and his back was already drenched in cold sweat, but he still didn't turn around.

"Only five minutes left."

Staring at the countdown on the task panel, Han Fei's heart was beating faster and faster, yet his expression remained calm.

When there were only three minutes left on the hidden task countdown, it seemed that the owner of Room 1051 was completely provoked. The entire room seemed to come alive, and the thick darkness surged out of the door like a big mouth, devouring the ghost behind Han Fei!

"Bang!"

Hearing the door closing behind him, Han Fei's heart skipped a beat. Unexpected circumstances had arisen.

All light disappeared, and Han Fei felt as if his vision had been taken away. Only deep darkness remained.

"The ghost behind me was also pulled into Room 1051?!"

Han Fei now felt extremely insecure. He wanted to move his body, leaning against the wall.

Soon, his shoulder bumped into something, but it didn't feel like a solid wall. It felt more like someone's belly against his shoulder.

"There's someone standing beside me? Their belly is at the height of my shoulder. Are they hanging in the room?"

The only thing that made Han Fei feel a little relieved was that the ghost behind him was still struggling. He could hear the constant screams and howls it emitted.

In this completely dark environment, being able to hear the ghost's screams and lamentations was comforting to Han Fei. At least he knew that there was still another outsider in the room.

The room was filled with gloomy energy, and the darkness surged against the walls. Han Fei couldn't help but sweat for the ghost behind him. "You must hold on for another three minutes!"

His eyes were fixed on the task panel, watching the countdown of the hidden task. "The countdown is still ongoing, which means the ghost behind me hasn't been eaten yet. That should be the only good news..."

Just as this thought crossed Han Fei's mind, he suddenly heard a piercing scream, and the dark wind in the room subsided significantly. The ghost behind him seemed to have suffered a heavy blow.

"Don't give up now, I was just cheering you on! Stay strong!" Han Fei was truly panicked. The level of horror in Room 1051 exceeded his imagination. He couldn't see anything, just pitch-black darkness everywhere, permeated by a nauseating stench, like an abandoned morgue.

The sounds of the struggle and screams gradually faded away, and only ten seconds had passed.

"Are you still there? Hold on for a little longer!" Han Fei was truly anxious. The ghost inside Room 1051 seemed to have limited mobility within the room. Its power was weak outside the room but strong inside.

The sounds of the fight gradually turned into banging on the door, then scratching and scraping sounds of nails on the door. The ghost behind Han Fei seemed to have given up on him and desperately wanted to escape.

Han Fei still hadn't turned around until now, completely unaware of what was happening behind him. He could only judge by the sounds.

The situation seemed to be getting worse. If the ghost behind him were allowed to leave, he would be left alone to face this eerie room.

Seizing the opportunity while the room's owner was not paying attention to him, Han Fei started to move backward.

The dense darkness almost materialized, and the ghost behind him exerted all its strength. However, just as the situation became most intense, Han Fei retreated to the door and grasped the doorknob.

"This is my chance!"

Han Fei tried to pull open the door, but as his body was about to move outward, invisible darkness entwined his body and held him tightly.

"I can't leave?"

By now, the ghost behind him and the owner of Room 1051 were on the verge of determining the victor. The ghost behind Han Fei, who had been following him all along, desperately wanted to escape, while the neighbour in Room 1051 gradually struggled to contain it.

The crack in the door gradually widened, and the room became brighter. The ghost behind Han Fei no longer cared about him. It seemed that it was on the verge of running out. Just when it was about to run out, Han Fei tightened his grip on the door lock and, as if trying to close the door, he exerted force.

Seeing Han Fei attempting to close the door, the ghost behind him let out a piercing scream, as if it was about to go insane.

"Take me with you!" Darkness enveloped Han Fei's body, and he couldn't break free with his own strength. All he could do was shout, "Weren't you planning to use me as a scapegoat? Didn't we agree to be each other's angels?"
