Chapter 48: Han Fei's Gift

When an actor meets a trickster, they exchange pleasantries and perform a familiar act in the cold hallway.

Han Fei chatted with the ghost behind him for about half a minute, gradually becoming more natural and enthusiastic, but he still didn't turn around. There were a few times when he almost twisted his head but stopped at the critical moment.

Slowly, the ghost behind Han Fei grew impatient.

You call me your brother, yet you don't even have the courage to look back at me. Isn't it obvious that you're deceiving a ghost?

The familiar voice gradually faded away, but Han Fei wasn't satisfied yet. He shouted a few more times but received no response. Only then did his expression slowly change. "Are you angry?"

Silence filled the hallway. The ghost standing behind Han Fei realized that words couldn't tempt him to turn around, so it seemed like a change of strategy was in order.

At that moment, the ring on Han Fei's finger began to emit a chill, and the ghost behind him shed its disguise.

The cold sensation on his fingertips grew stronger, and Han Fei couldn't accurately judge the opponent's strength. His body instinctively wanted to move forward and create distance, but the ghost stubbornly stayed behind him.

To make matters worse, Han Fei felt his body becoming heavier, as if something was pressing down on him.

As the cold spread through his body, Han Fei caught a faint, putrid odour. It was a smell he had never encountered before, somewhat resembling the scent of decay. Even a slight whiff made him feel nauseous.

Tick-tock, tick-tock...

Sticky liquid kept dripping onto his back, and Han Fei felt something choking his neck. The other party seemed to realize that they couldn't persuade him to turn back with words, so they were preparing to act directly.

Breathing became difficult, and Han Fei's face turned red. He remembered this familiar feeling.

When he first logged into "Perfect Life," he was scared by the ghost in the Murder House during the sleep task and fled in a panic.

He ran all the way to the first floor, and at that moment, the sound-activated lights suddenly went out, plunging the hallway into darkness.

Later, something followed him in the darkness and choked his neck just like this.

Han Fei sorted through his thoughts. The victims in the Murder House didn't harm him, nor did they leave the Murder House. The one who tried to strangle him back then was likely the ghost now following behind him.

"Why does this guy insist on making me turn around? Will I become his scapegoat once I see his face?" Han Fei increasingly felt that it was possible. He had no experience during his first login, and at that time, he was so frightened that he only focused on escaping and went offline directly in front of the ghost.

"If the ghost following me now is the same one who tried to kill me before, and if he knows that I'm a living person and witnessed me going offline, it's understandable that he wants to use me as a scapegoat."

As his neck was being twisted, Han Fei's mind was unusually clear. "He knows I'm alive and witnessed me going offline. This ghost cannot be spared."

Although he had also seen the cry on the third floor when Han Fei went offline, he managed to scare it off that time. Plus, the cry was just a child, nowhere near as cunning as the ghost currently following him.

Against such a cunning ghost skilled in manipulating hearts, the best solution was to let other ghosts devour him.

Han Fei couldn't retreat now, nor could he turn back. Taking the ghost with him to the Murder House was almost impossible.

Recalling a previous detail, when the ghost followed him, it first closed the door of the Murder House. This indicated that the ghost was aware of the danger within and couldn't possibly enter the Murder House with Han Fei.

Unable to deceive the ghost into the Murder House, he had to rely on the other ghosts in the building. While he still had the strength, Han Fei began to make his way upstairs.

Breathing became increasingly difficult, and Han Fei struggled to reach the fifth floor. He intended to seek help from the neighbour on the fifth floor.

"Xu Qin..."

Stepping on bloodstains on the floor, Han Fei stumbled. He grabbed the doorknob of Room 1052 and called out Xu Qin's name.

Xu Qin was a stranger to him, and Han Fei knew the likelihood of her helping him was low, but he had no better options now.

Han Fei knocked on the reinforced door, making a loud noise. However, the sound-activated lights seemed to be malfunctioning, as they didn't turn on at all. This confirmed Han Fei's suspicion once again.

He had encountered a similar situation in the hallway during his first login.

The chilling sensation on the ring became stronger and Han Fei realized that he had underestimated the ghost following him. Judging from the intense cold emitted by the ring, the ghost's strength was already comparable to the victims in the Human Puzzle Pattern.

What was even more terrifying was that the cold sensation from the ring continued to intensify.

"Is anyone there?"

Han Fei started banging on the door. It wasn't the time for politeness now. If he didn't create some commotion, he would surely be toyed with by the ghost behind him.

Under normal circumstances, he wouldn't dare to act this way. But now, he just wanted to stir things up quickly and attract other ghosts to share the pressure.

He made a loud noise on the fifth floor, but the resident of that floor showed no intention of opening the door. Instead, he heard doorknobs turning on other floors.

At this point, Han Fei could hardly catch his breath. He had no choice but to look at Room 1051.

The dark room revealed nothing, but emitted an overwhelming malevolence, as if entering it meant never being able to come out again.

"Meng Shi didn't mention Room 1051 in the information she gave me. This room shouldn't be that terrifying, right?"

Now Han Fei couldn't afford to think too much. He directly stepped towards Room 1051.

As his front leg entered the room, almost half of Han Fei's body was inside. At that moment, the ghost behind him let out a piercing scream. Its ten pale fingers clung to Han Fei's neck like fishhooks, trying to pull him out of the room.

Intense pain radiated from his neck, and just as Han Fei felt it might snap, the protective talisman hanging in front of his chest made a crisp sound and shattered completely.

An extreme chill burst forth from the talisman, forcing the fingers choking Han Fei to release their grip. Han Fei successfully entered Room 1051.

Darkness enveloped everything. After entering Room 1051, the darkness inside became even denser, as if all light entering would be swallowed up.

The ring on his finger kept sending a bone-chilling cold, and a pair of crimson eyes slowly opened in Room 1051.

Facing the grotesque gaze in the darkness, Han Fei trembled, but he still greeted it with a friendly wave. "I live downstairs and came to

visit for the first time. I felt it would be impolite to come empty-handed, so I brought a ghost for you."

Now, a delicate balance had emerged. The ghost following Han Fei didn't leave, but it seemed reluctant to enter Room 1051. At the same time, something hidden in Room 1051 also seemed wary of the ghost behind Han Fei.
