Chapter 62: Loyalty and Betrayal
After Han Fei took out the chrysalis, the person in room 1064 was completely captivated by it.
Han Fei noticed the reaction and deliberately put the chrysalis away in front of the person. "Looks like I made a mistake."
"You didn't make a mistake. This chrysalis belongs to my friend. Give it to me," the person in room 1064 said, extending a scarred and skinny arm through the security door.
"So, this is a chrysalis? I thought it was a stone," Han Fei put the chrysalis back into his inventory, looking puzzled. He then gazed at the tenant of room 1064 and said, "Didn't you say earlier that no one in your family is missing? So, this thing doesn’t belong to you. Do you think I'm so easily fooled?"
A flash of murderous intent crossed the tenant's eyes. He rarely reasoned with others, but today he had already spoken more than usual. "The person who gave you this chrysalis, is she a woman with long hair, her face disfigured, and a butterfly-shaped tattoo on her body?"
Hearing the tenant's words, Han Fei was truly stunned. He clearly remembered the appearance of the sixth-floor killer, which was nothing like what the tenant described.
Seeing Han Fei's lack of response, the tenant of room 1064 realized he had said something he shouldn't have and quickly continued, "If it's not that woman, then the one who gave you the chrysalis should be a man with a robust build, a foul odour emanating from his body, and a scar near his eyebrow. He is my brother, and he hasn't returned after going downstairs a few days ago."
"It was this man who gave me the chrysalis. He seemed to be chased by something and wanted me to temporarily keep it," Han Fei recalled the scene in his mind and sighed deeply. "To be honest, he saved my life. If it weren't for his help, I would probably have been killed by that monster."
"Now, can you give me the chrysalis? It's of no use to you, and it will bring you misfortune," the tenant of room 1064 insisted, showing no concern for Han Fei's story. He only cared about the chrysalis.
"I don't sense any care or concern for your brother from you. It seems like you only care about the chrysalis. I'm starting to doubt if you two are really friends," Han Fei calmly said, knowing that he could quit the game at any time. He even started to get into character, "I can't give such an important thing to a stranger. He saved my life, and I must fulfil his final request."
"If you truly want to repay him, then give me the item!" The tenant's voice squeezed through his clenched teeth, and he was on the verge of losing control, wanting to kill. His eyes were bloodshot and filled with black-red blood vessels.
"Only if you can prove that you are his friend or brother, I will give you the item," Han Fei showed no fear. Compared to the sister on the fifth floor, the deranged tenant in front of him was like a toothless dog.
The man's eyes slowly shifted, and he had already made up his mind to act. "I have many of his belongings in my room. If you don't believe me, you can come in and see."
"Do you have any tangible evidence? Don't waste my time! Look? Still looking? Why are your eyes so bloodshot? Do you have conjunctivitis?" Han Fei shouted, one sentence after another, making the eyes of the neighbour turn bloodshot.
The man had never been spoken to like this before. The sound of grinding teeth came from his mouth, and he exerted force with the arm hidden behind his back. It seemed like he couldn't control the urge to stab Han Fei in the heart.
With crimson eyes jumping in their sockets, the man's shoulders trembled slightly. He bit his tongue, and blood seeped out from between his teeth.
Seeing the horrifying expression on the neighbour’s face, Han Fei opened his attributes panel and stared at the bright "Quit" button while approaching the neighbour of the sixth floor, asking seriously, "Do you have epilepsy?"
Unable to bear it any longer, the man behind the neighbour grabbed his arm just as it was about to extend. A tall man of nearly two meters emerged from the toilet compartment of room 1064. He had been hiding there, and if Han Fei had entered the room earlier, the man would have launched an attack from the bathroom.
"Go and get the cursed photo," the tall man's voice was extremely soft, but it sent shivers down one's spine just by listening.
The skinny man, who had almost lost his sanity, ignored Han Fei and turned to enter the room. He took out a black and white group photo from the bedroom.
In the photo, there were over a dozen adults of various ages, most of whom had disfigured faces.
"We used to work at a nearby cinema. This is our group photo. Now, do you believe?" The tall man stared intently at the chrysalis.
"Just based on a photo, I still can't believe you," Han Fei took the chrysalis out of his inventory, deliberately provoking the tenant of room 1064 by teasing him with it.
The chrysalis was right in front of them, and the eyes of the two outsiders gradually became bloodshot.
"My brother saved my life, and I must help him fulfil his last wish. Although this thing is of no use to me, I will find its true owner for him..."
"I can tell that you value loyalty," Han Fei was interrupted by the tall man before he finished speaking. "Since my brother is willing to entrust this thing to you, it means that he has already approved of you. You are my brother's friend, so you are also my friend."
The man's soft voice sounded like a venomous snake whispering in one's ear. He extended his hand in front of Han Fei. "I haven't seen you before. You must be new here, right?"
"Yes."
"This building is very dangerous. It's good to have more friends who can look out for each other." The man reached out his hand, seemingly wanting to shake hands with Han Fei. "I'm Chonglou. What's your name?"
"I'm..." Han Fei's hand was about to reach out when the tall man suddenly accelerated, trying to grab Han Fei.
At the same time, the short and skinny man of room 1064 also revealed the arm he had been hiding behind his back, holding a knife in his hand.
These two maniacs had no intention of letting Han Fei go. They acted simultaneously, attempting to stab him with the knives the
moment they caught him.
But Han Fei was well-prepared from the beginning. He never trusted them and was just playing along. The advantage of allocating all his attribute points to stamina after levelling up began to show. His reaction speed had greatly increased. He narrowly avoided the man's hand and then frantically fled downstairs.
"Get him!"
To obtain the chrysalis, the tenant of room 1064 chased after Han Fei.
The temperature in the corridor dropped, and their commotion attracted some even more eerie things.
Han Fei ran ahead, with the short and skinny man holding the knife right behind him.
They quickly reached the fifth floor. The short and skinny man seemed to be a little frightened, slowing down his pace. He only accelerated when he saw Han Fei safely pass through room 1051.
His facial features twisted and deformed, and he let out a sinister laugh, "You can't escape!"
Han Fei and the short and skinny man successfully passed through room 1051, and the tall man in the back didn't suspect anything. However, as he walked to the entrance of room 1051, dark hands suddenly reached out from within the pitch-black doorway.
Those invisible hands wanted to drag him into room 1051. Seeing his companion being captured, the short and skinny man also stopped.
He sensed something was wrong and wanted to escape back to the sixth floor. But at that moment, the door of room 1052 opened.
A flash of blood, and two blood-stained kitchen knives pierced through the weak man's ribcage, coming out of his chest.
Before the short and skinny man could let out a scream, Han Fei pounced on him and covered his mouth.
What followed was a cruel and insane scene. Xu Qin quickly disposed of the short and skinny man, and room 1051 successfully swallowed Chonglou.
Xu Qin closed the door of room 1051 and then glanced upstairs. Both she and Han Fei heard a strange sound of footsteps.
It seemed like a person was jumping down the stairs step by step, but the speed was getting faster and faster!
"Come in!" Xu Qin grabbed Han Fei's clothes, and the two of them entered room 1052. Just as the sound of footsteps was about to approach, Xu Qin closed the door of room 1052.
Han Fei's heart was pounding, and the ring on his hand emitted a chilling sensation. He could feel that there was a terrifying creature outside the door.
They waited for a full ten minutes before the chilling sensation slowly dissipated.
Just as Han Fei was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he turned his head and saw Xu Qin staring at him with her crimson eyes. "Why did it take you so long?"
"It's not my fault, it's mainly..." Han Fei looked at the nearly dismantled body on the floor, "They wanted to be friends with me, the kind of friends who would be loyal and risk their lives for each other."
