Chapter 63: The Paradise Cinema Work Permit

"They did it now," Xu Qin said, looking at the broken body on the floor. She pulled the kitchen knife out of the man's ribs, dragging his body towards the kitchen. "Do you want to watch me cook?"

Han Fei shook his head, noticing that black threads emerged from the disassembled body. These threads seemed to have a life of their own, wriggling inside the man's body. "What are these black threads in their bodies?"

"These outsiders who come from outside the community, their bodies all have these black threads. It's like a curse," Xu Qin said, dragging the skinny man into the kitchen. As she dragged him, the man's body started to dissipate, and the black threads turned into black smoke.

"A curse?" Han Fei recalled the words that Chonglou had said. These outsiders seemed to have a cursed group photo.

"Most of the outsiders have these black threads in their bodies. Their consciousness is already extinguished, and under the stimulation of these threads, they become crazy, bloodthirsty, and filled with thoughts of killing. So, don't show mercy when you encounter them. If you can't kill them, they will do everything they can to kill you," Xu Qin said, closing the kitchen door. It was clear that she was still looking out for Han Fei.

A moment later, a chilling sound came from the kitchen, but after listening to it for a while, Han Fei noticed a peculiar rhythm to it.

"Sis, take your time cooking. I'll go to the sixth floor to look. Maybe there's something valuable hidden in the rooms of these outsiders," Han Fei said, concerned that the items in their rooms might be stolen by others.

"You better not go out now. Did you hear the footsteps earlier?"

"You mean the hopping sound?" Han Fei remembered the oppressive footsteps, feeling a bit intimidated. "Is it coming from one of the neighbours upstairs?"

"I've only heard that sound, but I don't know who it belongs to. I suspect that the owner of those footsteps probably lives on the ninth floor."

"The ninth floor? Someone lives on the ninth floor?"

"Most likely." Blood of a dark red colour oozed out from the kitchen door as Xu Qin's eyes lit up with excitement. She looked like a child who had finally found a beloved toy.

"I want to go to the tenth floor to see the Elder. I must pass through the ninth floor, there's no avoiding it..."

"I advise you to dismiss that idea. The eighth floor is already off-limits, and it's best to never go near the ninth floor." The kitchen door opened slightly, and Xu Qin walked out, warning Han Fei sternly. Her eyes were terrifyingly crimson, as if the ninth floor was an absolute taboo.

"Why?"

"You only need to know that the Elder became the Elder not because he was a good person or because everyone loved him. It's simply because he's the only one who can freely pass through the ninth floor," Xu Qin stared at Han Fei with her morbid eyes, her voice cold and seemingly afraid that Han Fei might run over there, which was why she was so stern in stopping him.

"Don't worry, I won't casually run upstairs without being fully prepared."

Just as Han Fei finished speaking, a blood-stained, pale arm reached towards his neck. The slender and icy-cold fingers lightly touched his cheek. "If you insist on seeking death, I hope you die in front of me."

At first, Xu Qin's words sounded terrifying, but in some way, Han Fei sensed a hint of concern.

"I won't go to my death. I still have something very important to do, like trying all the delicious food you make." In this dark and terrifying apartment building filled with danger at every step, Han Fei spoke words of healing warmth.

After hearing his words, Xu Qin's lips, stained in scarlet, curved into a smile. She turned around and busied herself in the kitchen.

A few minutes later, Xu Qin came out with a finished table mat. "It's a bit small, what do you think?"

"It feels a bit monotonous in style. One of the outsiders mentioned that among them, there was a person with a butterfly tattoo on their face..."

"A butterfly on their face?" Xu Qin seemed intrigued.

"When I have new clues, I'll come and let you know."

Han Fei stayed in the room for a while, until four in the morning, before leaving Room 1052 with Xu Qin.

They dragged Chonglou's body out of Room 1051. Han Fei took Chonglou's clothes, while Xu Qin dragged away the corpse. They each took what they needed.

Chonglou was somewhat unique among the outsiders. Without Xu Qin's help, Han Fei doubted he would have been a match even after levelling up five more times.

After searching through Chonglou's pockets, Han Fei found two peculiar items.

"Attention, Player 0000! You have discovered the Paradise Cinema work permit!"

"Paradise Cinema Work Permit (G-grade common item): One of the triggering conditions for the Artist profession. With this permit, you can freely enter the Paradise Cinema."

The system introduction only mentioned being able to enter freely, but it didn't say anything about being able to freely leave.

Han Fei speculated that there must be something wrong with the cinema, otherwise, all the people inside wouldn't have been cursed and turned into bloodthirsty maniacs.

"It's easy to enter but difficult to leave. However, I am quite interested in the Artist profession. I just don't know if it's the kind of artist I have in mind." In the game Perfect Life, there was no limit to the number of professions a player could have. However, reaching the highest level in one profession required a great amount of time and effort. It was already challenging for normal players to focus on one profession.

Previously, Han Fei received a preliminary task for a hidden profession, and he had no intention of giving up on it. He just felt that he needed a profession that he could openly present.

If he met other players in the future and introduced himself, Han Fei couldn't possibly say, "Hello, I'm Han Fei, a Midnight Butcher." Such a profession was too easily misunderstood.

In addition to the Paradise Cinema work permit, Han Fei found another special item—a black and white group photo with seventeen people.

"Attention, Player 0000! You have discovered the cursed group photo!"

"Cursed Group Photo (G-grade blood-coloured item): All the people in this photo will meet a bad end! This is my final wish!"

Reading the item description, Han Fei realized that the Paradise Cinema was probably even more dangerous than he had imagined. However, that place was too far away for him now.

He hadn't even fully explored the apartment building where he currently resided. He didn't have the ability or the courage to venture outside the building.

After obtaining these two special items, Han Fei ventured alone to the sixth floor.

He entered Room 1064 and found a pool of blood and severely damaged bones on the floor. The stench was unbearable. Searching carefully, Han Fei opened the bedroom door. This was the place with the strongest stench.

"What's this?"

The bed frame in the bedroom was dug open, revealing a pile of dismembered body parts emitting a foul odour. Among the pile, Han Fei spotted a human chrysalis that had completely turned blood-red.
